 | Coloured glass and cast aluminium 121 x 182.9 cm (inches: 47¾ x 72.) Edition of 7.
Made by Roman Halter after an original idea for a stained glass window by Henry Moore.
Roman Halter first met Henry Moore in 1954 when Halter was a lecturer at the Architectural Association in London and regularly took groups of his students to Moore's studio at Much Hadam. Their friendship lasted over three decades. On a visit to see Moore in 1985 Halter showed Moore photographs of stained glass windows that he was working on at the time. He suggested that Moore himself might consider the idea of making an image for a stained glass window. Moore was excited by this as he had never before experimented in the medium. In particular he was intrigued by Halter's technique of casting the filigree in bronze or aluminium rather than working in lead cames. He made a drawing of a reclining figure which Halter then squared up and reinterpreted to show how it might look in glass. Moore was happy with the result and the window was made.
The filigree was made in wood from which a mould was made for casting. LP21159 | |
